The NHS pay for an eye examination for all children up to the age of sixteen, on an annual basis. This may be more frequent on the advice of the Optometrist. Children do not need to be able to read to have their eyes tested. Parents are encouraged therefore to have children screened from the age of four, and earlier if there are clinical signs or history of squints or vision problems in the family. Teenagers over the age of sixteen, still in full time education, may, until they are nineteen, have an eye examination every two years. If spectacles or contact lenses are needed the NHS issue through the practitioner a voucher, which may provide them free of charge, or certainly at reduced cost. Please see PRICING. We are always pleased to accept presciptions and vouchers obtained elsewhere.
